Monetizing A Forum by Willie Crawford

June 15th, 2007 by Thinkbox Web

Many webmasters add a forum to their website thinking that this will increase the traffic, stickiness, and profitability of their website. Often, adding a forum to your website does accomplish the first two. However, the forum often proves NOT to be a profit center.

I personally have found this to be true of my forum. By comparison, I have a blog that is much more profitable. The blog format such as mine at http://WillieCrawford.com/blog/ encourages subscribers, and when I post, RSS notifications bring the subscribers back (where the do often make purchases right from the blog).

Webmasters also often discover that visitors to the forum rarely visit other pages of the websites. They enter and exit the website through the forum.

Webmasters then search for ways to monetize the website such as selling affiliate products, using Google AdSense, and selling links. These can generate revenue, but in proportion to the percentage of the site’s traffic that they generate, forum profitability is often very disappointing.

If you own a phpBB discussion board, you can use a new tool Forum AdManager to earn you advertising revenue which will dwarf what you receive from Google AdSense, and all of the other revenue streams mentioned above.

Forum AdManager will create ad slots on every page of your forum, which you can sell to advertisers. Astonishingly the whole selling process is automated from payment to ad submission to the ad going live. This tool removes all of the administration.

Forum AdManager is a free download. The product’s developers can install it for you for free and you could be up and running in less than five minutes. Your revenues can easily be many times your AdSense revenue.

You can get all of the details on Forum Ad Manager and get it free here: http://forumadmanager.com/go.php?af=jvyyvr@jvyyvrpenjsbeq.pbz
